Excellent, wrought iron appearing fireplace screen
We were looking for a simple, rectangular screen for a fireplace in an old house. We did not want to screw it to the fireplace to keep it in place. This screen works perfectly. Stands up straight and the doors open without tipping forward. We have been very impressed and use it daily.

Nice product but came damaged and refund was a HASSLE
The product is great but it did come damaged. We returned it and it took almost a month for Brookstone to refund my money. And of course then they tried to refund it minus the shipping!!!!! Thank God Amazon was kind enough to refund me the shipping costs. But of course even that wasn't until two weeks later. So if you live paycheck to paycheck you are screwed - or at least you will be without a fireplace screen for two months.

Just what we were looking for!
Hard to find a Fireplace Screen that allows access without completely mounting or having to move the whole unit out of the way. Totally worth the money and looks nice too!!

This shows both the large and small with the same dimensions. The small is as listed but the large is actually 44 x 33 -- See the Brookstone website.

Question : Fireplace screen?
I just purchased a fireplace screen to go in front of the fireplace... We have a screen that slides in front of the fire but embers will pop out or the logs will shift and a couple times they have rolled out. I got the screen so the cat wont lay in front of the fireplace and risk get hurt by flying embers or hot logs rolling out on to him. But we have noticed that even though the screen is metal/mesh... it seems to block a lot of the heat. I was wondering if it is acting as a heat sink, the heat hits the metal screen that is sitting on ceramic tile. If you move the screen it gets really warm in the living room really fast. Anybody else experience this?
Answer:
Screens do block a lot of heat. In a poorly designed fireplace more than 50% of the heat can be reflected back into the fireplace and out the chimney. I think most people finally end up not using the screen unless they are leaving the room--then they use it for safety.
As for you cat--that is a dilemma.

Question : do i HAVE to buy a fireplace screen?
i am renting, short of money. there are no rugs or furniture near fireplace. there is 1 foot of tile right in front of the fireplace opening, and then hardwood floors. is it "suggested" but not "necessary" to get a screen?
Answer:
Buy a cheap rug from Big Lots or the dollar store to protect your floor. Does it have the normal chain screen right in front? if not then yeah you probably need a screen unless you want to burn the place down...JK :) But seriously if you don't have some kind of metal protection a log can roll off at any time: and truth be told no one watches their fires constantly!

Question : How can I remove rust from an outdoor fireplace screen?
I have a Coleman outdoor fireplace with a metal screen that has become very rusty. I would like to paint it but I know that I have to remove ALL of the rust or it will return. I would order a new screen but it has been discontinued.
Answer:
how about dont paint it or remove the rust......spray the screen with Pam cooking spray of even better rub it with lard or butter....it will turn a pleasant dark red to black color. there is really no paint other than a powder coat that will last....if you want to have a nice pretty black screen rub it down with warm beeswax and bake it in the oven at 500 degrees for a few hours....of course this will set off the smoke alarm and stink pretty bad.

Question : is this a fire hazard? we have a gas log set in our fireplace and a metal fireplace screen in front of the?
fireplace. my wife placed two 2 foot tall scarecrows on the fireplace hearth. one on the left side of the hearth and the other an the right. the scarecrows are made of straw. the fireplace screen is between the log set and these things sitting on the hearth. is it a fire hazard to have something like this sitting on the hearth when the fireplace is off but the pilot light is on? obviously i wouldnt light the set with these things on the hearth. i wonder if a spark could shoot out from underneath the log set pilot light and somehow make it through the screen and cause a fire. is this far fetched or is there a risk here?

Best advice is to keep combustible materials at least 1.5 m (5ft) from any sources of ignition.

Question : Can I use a fireplace cover as the screen in a radiator cover?
I am building rad covers as part of my childproofing, but am finding it impossible to find the decorative screens required. Can I use fireplace screens instead? Or, any other ideas?
Answer:
You can purchase decorative screens at Home Depot. They are tucked away in a small corner near the insulation, but they do have them. I purchased mine there. I have also seen them at Rocky's(Ace). Other than that I suppose you could use a fireplace screen.

Question : What is a safe fireplace screen that won't attract a toddler's attention?

Answer:
Assuming the screen is non-combustible (and it had better be!), you can use a propane torch to burn off the plastic. Try not to overheat the screen, as you will probably discolor it if you do.

Question : What do you think about a flat screen above a fireplace?
So we just bought a flat screen t.v. I'm not into the giant t.v.s but we bought a 42 inch - which is big enough. We could put it on a stand or we could put it above our fireplace. I would love to have it on a wall (fireplace) instead of a stand, for space issues. My husband said you can't put it about the fireplace because people don't want to look up at the screen from a sitting position. What do you think? Where is the best place.

I don't think above the fireplace is a good idea. Fireplaces can REALLY heat up a home sometimes and what if the heat does something to your TV? I suggest a stand

Will the heat from the fireplace harm the plasma TV?
"There are a few precautions to take before hanging a plasma screen TV over your fireplace. First, take a thermometer and tape it to the wall above the mantel, in the place where the plasma TV will reside. Then build a fire, and let it roar awhile. Now, check the thermometer. If the temperature is above 90 degrees F, then the area is receiving too much heat -- either escaping from the front of the fireplace and rising up the face, or radiating through the chimney to warm the outside wall -- for a plasma TV to hang there without receiving some modicum of residual damage. It would not be advisable to run the plasma for a long period of time while its environment is this hot. Though the Plasma TV has its own cooling system, the surrounding heat will force the Plasma display to work harder to cool itself, thus shortening the overall lifespan of the unit over time. A Plasma TV may still be run for short periods of time without harming the unit (even with the environment heat at 90 degrees F or above).
If the plasma display is not turned on while a fire burn in the fireplace, then the unit will not be harmed at all even though the temperature surrounding the unit may be warm. Of course, this might not be an option for people living in places where winter lasts seemingly forever, and fires are an everyday fact of life. In such cases, you should be advised to monitor the amount of heat your plasma display is exposed to while it is running".
