Questions & Answers
Question : How to install a glass fireplace door?
Currently we have a manufacture fireplace. On the front of the fireplace it has a metal net screen that you pull from both sides to close it. This screen is attached by little round links to a metal bar that runs across the top outside opening of the fireplace. We want to install a glass fireplace door - 1st - how does one remove that bar? 2nd - how do you get the correct measurements for the new glass fireplace door? 3rd - how do you install the fireplace door? Your help is much appreciated.

Answer:
I had a similar set up but instead of a door, there was a solid piece of glass between the screen (as youd described) and the glass. Ours was a Heatilator and on their units, you could read the model number behind the access panel on the bottom of the unit. Based on that model number, they had a 2 panel door that I ordered. It came with detailed instructions on installing it. Depending on your unit, you might have the same vendor, if not maybe you can get the model number and then search for the door.

Question : Can I use an out door fireplace (a chiminea) in my new living room?
I ran out of money during our new renovation of our family room. I wanted a fireplace but now I can't afford one. We have a beautiful little one that we use on the patio. Could I bring that one in and use it if we keep the windows open while it's lit?

Answer:
As long as it's not too cold outside and you only burn candles in it. It should be quite pretty. You could save for a real one next Christmas so Santa has some way to get in the house.

Question : Determining color finish for fireplace door.?
I need help with choosing a color finish for the Brookfield fireplace glass door. There are an assortment of colors. I have medium colored hardwood floors, beige marble tile fireplace, beige walls, white trim, burgundy sofa set, black plasma tv , home surround and track lights. I am thinking of black because my 50 inch black plasma is above fireplace. What do you thinkd?

Answer:
It kind of depends how much attention you want pulled to it. If you go lighter your eye would travel to it more. Black qould blend better. I think black is the best choice though.

Question : Fireplace glass door problem! Is there a lubricant?
I have a pretty stone fireplace, I don't know how old, and the glass door does not slide well. The post on the end of the glass keeps coming out of the track and the henge's are stiff. Other than that its in good looking shape. What can I do to make the doors work better. To all. Oil is not a viable option, as it will stink when heated. I checked with a fireplace store since posting and they say use silicon spray.

Answer:
You can try soaking it with household oil or spray it with WD-40. Either of those will work. gram

Question : is it safe to have a wooden door and a fireplace side by side?
lets say I have a fireplace and right to the left I want to extend my bedroom and put a door there.. so in otherwards my fireplace and my bedroom door will be side by side.... I know drywall is ok and safe, but will a wooden door be safe when I light my fire place and shut my door... is it up to standards according to the fire law.. and there is brick all around the fire place

Answer:
It will be safe. The brick is protecting the house frame from reaching kindling temperature. Make sure your renovation does not enclose the outside of the fireplace or affect the draw at the top of the chimney.

Question : Replacing a fireplace door..?
We want to replace the fireplace door on our wood burning, brick fireplace. Theres one there now but its out dated looking. How do we take the old one out?

Answer:
Just spend a little time checking it out. Can you see screws or nuts that hold the doors on to the frame? Check the frame for screws or nuts that hold the frame to the brick. The sad part of it is that the screws or nuts will most likely to be frozen in place. (They won't turn out). if they do hurray. If they don't the heads may break off, that's not to bad. If the heads don't break off get a drill bit or small grinder the size of the screw head & drill or grind the heads off. The screws may be set in a channel in the frame but you should be able to drill them out. Then you should be able to pull the frame away from the bricks. The screws that may still be sticking out can be sawed off. There may be caulk around where frame was & you can take that off with a paint remover (Cleaning it depends on if it will or will not be covered by the new door) When using paint remover on bricks a spray on works best. Use a scraper & wire brush. it will take several steps.

Question : How to build an out door kiva style fireplace?
I'd like to build a small kiva style fireplace on my patio. Anyone know where I can find plans and/or details for one? I did a search and couldn't come up with anything useful. I'm sure the information is out there, I just don't know where to look. Thank you in advance for your help.

Answer:
Traditional Kiva style fireplaces were built out of mud bricks so here is what I would try. Main structure from brick covered with Thoroseal for that smooth, solid appearance. You can do your own plans with the area you are working with. Get some chalk and draw a few boundaries and then create from there. You can also use things to build around such as an old drier drum for the base, you can cut the metal as you desire for the opening. The cylinder would be easy to work with and around.

Question : Removing the black slime from the inside of a glass door on a fireplace?
What products/methods work best for this? I've tried windex, newspapers with water and vinegar and costly specialty products. They work - but all leave a film on the glass.

Answer:
Oven cleaner will work, but be sure to rinse thoroughly and dry completely before building a new fire. Creosote on the interior of your glass doors indicates a few problems that could become real hazards. It could be a slightly blocked chimney or flue that needs adjustment for proper air flow. The more air flow, the less creosote. Creosote buildup also indicates a need to get the chimney cleaned (a chimney sweep shouldn't cost more than 60-100$ and can inspect the fireplace) asap. Creosote buildup is a highly flammable substance, and a leading cause of house fires caused by fireplace problems. It burns extremely hot and is very hard to put out. Good luck, and please get the chimney cleaned to be safe.

Question : Where can I find door kit model 793412 for Marco fireplace model 7928628?
I am trying to add a door or glass to this fireplace. The Marco website say Marco fireplaces are no longer manufactured. I would rather use the doors made for te model if possible; since it appears holes are already been drilled in the housing.

Answer:
You might try going back to the page, then to the Lennox link, and find a dealer using the zip code. Contact them and maybe? You might also try this: http://www.fireplacedoorsonline.com/acatalog/Doors_For_Marco_Fireplaces.html they might be able to fix you up. then there is always ebay

Question : how do i replace old fireplace doors?
We have a wood burning fireplace with old doors. We'd like to install a whole new door insert. Not sure what its called. I see some screws and was able to get the old screen out but im not sure where to go next.

Answer:
Try this website. http://www.thermo-rite.com/Products.html I carry this line of fireplace doors and they are some of the best I have seen. All you do is measure your fireplace opening and they will build the door for you. I bought one for my house and I love it.
